LONDON, Nov 5, 2001/ --- It's been a lucrative year for Gucci recruit Alexander McQueen, and
he has spot 102 in The Sunday Times' Pay List to prove it. The bad-boy Brit reportedly brought
home more than $8 million to make the annual roundup of Britain's highest earners.
Hear that Stella? Looks like Miss McCartney should be asking Gucci boss Domenico de Sole for
a raise. Also a member of the Gucci stable, she earned less than $3 million over the last
year. The anti-leather designer signed a deal (worth an estimated $21 million) with the
leather-loving Italian company last spring.
Even if she can't rival McQueen's income, McCartney always has daddy's coffers to fall back on.
Sir Paul claimed almost $30 million, and the 17th spot on the Pay List, this year.
In the showdown of the supermodels, Kristy Hume ruled the catwalk with a $5 million paycheck
this year. Vivien Solari was close on her heels with about $4.5 million. Karen Elson claimed
$4 million and Erin O'Connor $3.8 million.
Lisa Ratliffe's Burberry and Calvin Klein deals helped her take home about $3.7 million.
Sudan-native Alek Wek made her Pay List debut with $3.5 million.
Old girls Kate Moss and Naomi Campbell apparently weren't working it too hard over the last
12 months. The two both came in under the $3 million mark.
That's all chump change though compared to the Material Girl, who raked in more than $40
million to snag the title of Britain's highest-earning woman. Thanks to her British hubby
Guy Ritchie, she's now made London her main residence and is eligible for the Pay List.
She's even edged out queen of the Harry Potter kingdom J.K. Rowling.
Just for a little perspective: Elizabeth, queen of the real kingdom, came in at number
24, behind both eleventh-ranked Madonna and number 14 Rowling.
Anne Robinson is officially the richest link, at least in the British media circuit.
“The Weakest Link” presenter shares 88th place with Manchester United soccer star David
Beckham. His wife Victoria - aka Posh Spice -- is the only one of the five Spices to remain
on the Pay List, likely due to advances on her autobiography "Learning to Fly."
