Barneys Introduces a New Custom This December
NEW YORK, Dec 16, 2001 / -- Barneys is synonymous with custom detailing and tailored clothing.
But this December, the exclusive department store is taking it one step further.
In-house designers will visit the Madison Avenue store from noon to 5pm each Saturday this
month, on the 8th floor women’s department, to customize purchased t-shirts and jeans.
Not only does the customizing detail create a one-of-a-kind personal piece of property --
making the item a fabulous Christmas gift -- but the custom fee is donated to the designer’s
charity of choice.
Last Saturday, using markers and paint, raisedbyrobots designer Jay Sabatino numbered and
lettered tees and jeans, with the $20 custom fee benefiting Mayor Guiliani’s Twin Tower Fund.
The designers choose the medium they want to work in. Next Saturday, Tess Giberson & Jon
Widman will use stitch and silkscreen to put their personal touch on selected items, with
a $20 to $50 custom fee benefiting WAR, Women at Risk, a breast cancer charity.
On December 15 Matt Swope, of MATT made in the USA, will stencil gold and silver circles for
custom-loving shoppers. His $25 fee for each circle will benefit ASPCA, the American Society
for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.
Then on December 22, Andrew Andrew, designer of the Respect Me Fashion Line, will sew labels
for a $50 custom fee, donated to Seeds of Peace, which empowers children of war to break the
cycle of violence.
