Celebrity Duds Go On The Block For Charity
NEW YORK, Oct 22, 2001 -- The Catherine Malandrino American flag T-shirt that Madonna wore for
her Drowned World tour is expected to fetch up to $15,000 when it goes on the block at
Christie's in London on Monday.
The diamante-studded tee is even autographed by the diva herself.
The celebrity fashion auction is being held to benefit Cancer and Leukemia in Childhood's
(CLIC) London home that provides free accommodation in the city for the families of children
undergoing treatment.
Other diamante duds up for bidding include a black diamante suit owned by Sir Elton John,
a green embroidered dress that Donatella Versace designed and wore to last year's Oscars,
and the sunglasses Bono wore in the Elevation video.
Music lovers can bid on three cream Elvis outfits created for the Corrs and a guitar signed
by the Bee Gees. There are even options for sports buffs among the 60 lots. Michael Stipe has
donated a signed pair of Prada skis and the boxing dressing gown that Daniel Day-Lewis wore
while filming "Boxer" is also on the block.
Non-sporty smokers can bid on Eric Clapton's Zippo lighter, an interesting item to include
in a charity auction for cancer.
Organizers hope to raise about $150,000 for CLIC.
