LOS ANGELES, Oct 8, 2001 / -- Just hours before celebrities were to arrive on the red carpet at the Shine Auditorium in Los Angeles, the Academy of Arts and Sciences and CBS announced that the Emmys have been called off.

Due to America's air strikes on Afghanistan, the organizers believe to carry on with the event would be inappropriate.

The Emmys were initially scheduled for September 16th, but were postponed due to the September 11th terrorist attacks. No further announcements have been made on whether or not they will be postponed or canceled all together.
