Movie Review: American Wedding, Done With College, On To Married Life
By: Mari Davis
DALLAS, Mar 14, 2004/ FW/ --- If you’ve seen the previous two, then American Wedding is a must see so that there will be closure in this raunchy comedy about libido and sexuality.
First, let’s get over the disappointment, i.e., this is not a real reunion with half of the original cast Chris Klein, Mena Suvari, Tara Reid and Shannon Elisabeth missing.
With that said, let’s get on with the laughs. The premise of the movie is that high school and college life are over and the ‘kids’ are now bonafide adults with jobs. Yes, including Stifler (Seann William Scott) who is an assistant coach of sorts.
So, what does one do after college and has a stable job? Get married is the answer, and that was what Michelle (Alyson Hannigan) and Jim (Jason Biggs) were going to do.
Simple…. Well… not quite, when Stifler appears and practically makes the whole wedding planning and finally the ceremony frantic.
There’s the case of trying to catch Michelle’s sister’s attention by both Stifler and Finch. And then trying to find the perfect wedding dress wherein the four guys had to go to Chicago and win a dance contest.
And there is the heart-to-heart talk again with Eugene Levy, but this time it is Alyson Hannigan and not Jason Biggs.
And of course, the appearance of Stifler’s mom who is always a welcome sight on the screen.
Personally, I think that this should be the last of the American Pie series, unless the producers can get back the whole cast once again and do a real ‘reunion’ just to see how their characters have developed.
If they cannot do that, better stop at American Wedding because they would run out of material and then the comedy will become stale.
