Movie Review: American Pie 2, Lewd, Crude and Full of Laughs
By: Mari Davis
DALLAS, Feb 24, 2004/ FW/ --- They’re back! And this time, they’re college kids. Jason Biggs, Chris Klein, Thomas Ian Nicholas, and Eddie Kaye Thomas reprise their roles are sex-obsessed college freshmen spending their first summer at home as adults.
Tara Reid, Mena Suvari, Alyson Hannigan and Shannon Elizabeth continue to be the objects of their affection, but this time things have changed. The girls had taken control, although the boys do not know it yet.
Finding that things have really changed ‘at home’ since they left for college, the boys decided to rent a beach house at Lake Michigan. And everything happens there – from Jim (Jason Biggs) that Nadia (Shannon Elizabeth) will be coming to visit by the end of the summer, to the boys working as house painters owned by “probable” lesbians.
The main subject is still S-E-X, though a little bit mature than the original release. It’s more lewd and crude than the first, but believe me when I say that there is also more laughter and more comedic situations than the first.
And with a full cast reunion, even with the smaller players, it’s a true sequel.
Eugene Levy returns as Jason Biggs dad and once again the father-son heart-to-heart talk are highlights of the movie, except that this time, both Levy and Biggs are funnier than before. You cannot tell which one is the straight guy from the comedian.
Recommendation: Watch American Pie first, before watching this movie for continuity.
