By: Kim Wilson
NEW YORK, Nov 21, 2001/ FW/ --- A collection of jewelry and couture clothing from the estate of the
late editor in chief of Harper's Bazaar Liz Tilberis is set to go under the hammer in December.
The sale, at Doyles New York, will feature over 30 lots of jewelry and stunning couture
pieces from Chanel, Valentino and Versace.
Highlights include a classic Cartier Baignoire watch with flexible stainless steel and 18-kt.
yellow gold bracelet. Also featured is a gold wristwatch with leather band, centered on
an 18-kt. gold case inscribed with "No Time To Die," the title of Tilberis' 1997 book.
"She had a lot of watches, but not necessarily things she went out and bought herself. A
lot of things were probably given to her from jewelry companies," said Laura Doyle, director
of jewelry at the auction house.
Also on auction are several pieces of fine couture and antique clothing. The majority of
pieces are from Chanel, including eveningwear as well as day wear. "They represent the finest
level of couture," said Jan Reeder, Doyle's couture specialist.
Tilberis, the much-loved former Harper's Bazaar and British Vogue editor, died in April 1999
after a five-year battle with ovarian cancer. She was 51.
Fine jewelry from her estate goes under the hammer on December 4. Costume jewelry goes to
auction on December 12, followed by the sale of her clothing on December 13.
