Jolie Files for Divorce

NEW YORK, Jul 21, 2002 / -- Angelina Jolie has made it official: She and husband Billy Bob Thornton are calling it quits.
The actress, 27, filed for divorce this week in Los Angeles Superior Court, citing
irreconcilable differences.
The marriage was Thornton's fifth and Jolie's second.
According to court papers, the couple has been separated since June 3.
In an Us Weekly interview released Wednesday, Jolie said she and Thornton, 46, have been
living in separate hotels for four months, and have not spoken in four weeks.
The early days of their two-year marriage were quite a different story though.
The two made headlines for months with their whirlwind courtship, Las Vegas wedding,
his-and-hers tattoos, blood vials and candid sex talk.
In 2000, Thornton told Us: "I was looking at her sleep, and I had to restrain myself from
literally squeezing her to death. Sex for us is almost too much."
This week, Thornton issued a statement on the divorce, saying only: "It's a sad thing."
Jolie has refused to comment on the divorce papers, but told Us Weekly, "I'm angry. I'm sad.
It's a very difficult and sad time."
She went on to say that, "It's clear to me our priorities have shifted overnight."
The couple adopted a Cambodian baby this spring, but while Jolie has cared for the 11-month
old boy, Maddox, Thornton went on tour to promote his album and sought attention elsewhere.
"He hasn't been as honorable as he could be," reveals Jolie.
According to Jolie's court papers, Thornton moved out 11 days after their son came to
the United States.
The Oscar-winning actress is asking for all of her jewelry, her earnings since they married,
and sole custody of Maddox, with visitation rights for Thornton.
