Patron of the Arts: Movado Hosts Celeb-Studded Event Series
By Tanya Jensen
NEW YORK, Apr 26, 2002/ --- Luxury timepiece maker Movado is going culture-crazy with a
six-week celebration of artistic events in Manhattan. As Efraim Grinberg, President and
CEO of the Movado Group, put it: "Movado is internationally recognized for its association
and support of culture and the arts."
The world-renowned watchmaker kick-started the festivities last week with a cocktail
party at the Movado Soho, as a tribute to the 25th anniversary of the New Museum of
Contemporary Art.
The limited edition Andy Warhol "Times/5" watch designed by the Pop artist, displayed
at the event, is to be auctioned at The New Museum's 25th Anniversary Gala Benefit.
Guests including designers Diane Von Furstenburg, Miuccia Prada, John Waters, Ingrid Sischy
and Deborah Harry and will host the slick night with other arts, fashion and entertainment
luminaries.
Then Movado and Tourneau will co-host a free concert by classical violinist Sarah Chang
(who also happens to be the poster girl for Movado's ad campaign), and on May 13th the
American Ballet Theatre will have a one-time-only performance at the Metropolitan Opera
House highlighting their spring season.
Finally, "Comin' Home to Harlem," hosted by Whoopi Goldberg, is a benefit to raise funds
to support Jazz at Lincoln Center, and will showcase performances by Stevie Wonder and
Vanessa Williams.
