50 Years of Rock & Rule! - Queen Elizabeth II Golden Jubilee Celebration
LONDON, Jun 3, 2002/ FW/ --- Elizabeth II became Queen of England in 1952. Within a couple years,
rock & roll began to rule the world. Coincidence?
Celebrating her 50 years of service to the monarchy, Queen Elizabeth II has invited people
from all over the UK to attend a spectacular free concert in the garden of Buckingham Palace
as part of the Golden Jubilee celebrations in June.
Featuring an impressive array of artists representing the past half-century of popular music,
"The Queen's Jubilee: Party at the Palace" special premieres on Sunday, June 9 at 9:00 p.m.
(ET/PT), on VH1.
Hosted by Sharon Osbourne ("The Osbournes"), the two-hour VH1 special "The Queen's Jubilee:
Party at the Palace" spotlights performances by the following top music stars under the
creative guidance of legendary producers Sir George Martin and Phil Ramone.
Confirmed performers include: Eric Clapton, Phil Collins, Aretha Franklin, Sir Elton John,
Sir Paul McCartney, Queen, and Ray Davies.
The Royal Academy of Music's Symphony Orchestra will accompany the concert, conducted by
Academy Award-winning composer Michael Kamen.
This is the first time that a Monarch has invited people from every part of the UK to
Buckingham Palace for a concert. Chosen by ballot, 12,000 fans will attend The Queen's
Jubilee: Party at the Palace, one of two open-air Golden Jubilee concerts that will take
place at Buckingham Palace, along with a classical music concert, "Prom at the Palace."
Before the concerts, guests will be able to enjoy a champagne picnic, with a dish specially
created by the Royal Chefs, and other entertainment in the Buckingham Palace garden.
