8th Annual SAG Awards Nominations
LOS ANGELES, Feb 5, 2002/ --- "A Beautiful Mind" and "In the Bedroom" lead the pack in Screen Actors
Guild Awards nominations, scoring three each.
Marisa Tomei and Ted Danson read the list of nominees Jan 29 in L.A.
In addition to the aforementioned films, "Gosford Park," "The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship
of the Ring" and "Moulin Rouge" were nominated for outstanding performances by the cast of
a theatrical motion picture, the equivalent of the Academy's coveted best picture prize.
Already Golden Globe winners for their roles in "A Beautiful Mind," Russell Crowe and
Jennifer Connelly were nominated for SAG awards as best lead male and female actor. They
are joined by Kevin Kline ("Life as a House"), Sean Penn ("I Am Sam"), Denzel Washington
("Training Day") and Tom Wilkinson ("In the Bedroom") in the male category, and Halle Berry
("Monster's Ball"), Judi Dench ("Iris"), Sissy Spacek ("In the Bedroom") and Renee Zellweger
("Bridget Jones's Diary") in the female.
On the television front, the casts of "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation," "Law & Order,"
"Six Feet Under," "The Sopranos" and "The West Wing" were nominated in the drama category.
"Everybody Loves Raymond," "Frasier," "Sex and the City," "Friends" and "Will & Grace" are
up for outstanding ensemble performances in a comedy series.
The only show that allows actors themselves to bestow awards on their peers, the SAG Awards
gains prominence each year as an Oscar predictor. Some say it's overtaking the Golden Globes
in that capacity. This year's 8th annual SAG Awards will be broadcast on TNT on March 10.
