Establishing 'House Rules' on Reality TV
'House Rules', Presented by Lowe's, Turns Home Improvement Into A No-Holds-Barred Competition
DALLAS, Aug 14, 2003 / FW/ -- From an isolated island, to the jungles of the Amazon, to the
fashion runways of New York and Paris, reality TV has literally enchanted viewers across the
nation.
In October, TBS Superstation brings 'House Rules,' an unscripted competition series wherein the
grand prize is a house.
And it is not just an ordinary house. It's a house wherein the competitors will remodel. Yes,
home improvement is now reality TV!
Sponsored by Lowe's, the series premieres on October 10, Friday at 8 p.m. on TBS Superstation.
The competing couples, from L to R, are Joey & Rebecca, Cindy & Bill and Katie & Adam.
The premise of the show is simple - three teams (which is a couple actually) will each
remodel a home in Houston Texas, with one couple being chosen by viewers to win the home
they've remodeled.
The three teams chosen for the inaugural edition of HOUSE RULES are
Katie and Adam, newlyweds who will spend their honeymoon competing on the show;
Cindy and Bill, who have been married for 11 years; and Rebecca and Joseph, who
have been in a long-distance relationship for nearly a year.
Each week, the teams must compete to win their share of a remodeling
allowance to be used to pay for the renovations.
Once a week, they will also
have an opportunity to spy on each other's progress as they each host weekly
dinner parties for their opponents on a rotating basis.
Is this very much like 'keeping up with the Joneses' or what?
Lowe's, who is providing all products and materials used on the show,
partnered on HOUSE RULES to provide a unique behind-the-scenes glimpse of what
it really takes to remodel a home.
Produced by Evolution Film & Tape, Inc. (Fear
Factor, Big Brother) with MAGNA Global Entertainment (The
Restaurant), House Rules turns home improvement into a no-holds-barred competition, as
the three teams remodel three homes desperately in need of a makeover.
All three teams, while savvy in home improvement and interior design, are amateurs who
will have to rely on their own judgment and skills.
Mark L. Walberg (Temptation Island) will be the host for the series.
Walberg is well known to fans of reality television for his hosting work on
the popular series Temptation Island.
His other hosting credits include
Russian Roulette, Anything For Love, Test the Nation and
The Mark Walberg Show.
He also served as executive producer of the cable series Sunday Dinner.
Walberg's other credits include playing himself on
an episode of Son of the Beach, as well as competing in and winning a
celebrity TV host edition of The Weakest Link.
