Jim Carrey Voted Top Money Making Star in 2003 by Quigley Poll
LOS ANGELES, Jan 3, 2004/ FW/ --- The Oscars might still be over a month away, but lists and awards for the motion picture industry are already being released.
Quigley’s 71st Annual Top Ten Money-Making Stars Poll has voted Jim Carrey, star of box office
hit Bruce Almighty, as the top money making star for 2003.
Carrey, who has placed in the Top Ten five times and been runner-up in three of those, had never won until this year.
He finished ahead of all time box office champion Tom Cruise, who has appeared on the list fifteen times and held the #1 position six times, and Tom Hanks who won in 2002 and who has had five wins in the nine years he has been voted into the Top Ten.
The Quigley Poll, conducted every year since 1932, is an annual survey of motion picture exhibitors, which asks them to vote for the ten stars that generated the most box-office revenue in the preceding year for their theatres.
Long regarded as one of the most reliable indicators of a Star's box-office draw, the Quigley Poll has been cited in hundreds of publications and appears annually in Quigley Publishing Company's International Motion Picture Almanac.
Nicole Kidman, who won the Academy Award for Best Actress last year for "The Hours," and performed in "The Human Stain" and "Cold Mountain" in 2003, finished second to Carrey. This is Kidman's third appearance in consecutive years.
Jack Nicholson ranked third overall this year and Tom Cruise came in fourth.
Surprisingly, Tom Hanks only dropped to eighth place, even though he was not in a film released in 2003. Both "Road to Perdition" and "Catch Me If You Can" were released in 2002.
