Tune In Tomorrow: A Classic Film, One For Your Collection
Movie Review

DALLAS, May 1,2004/ FW/ --- One of Keanu Reeves’ most lovable performances, Tune In Tomorrow is a movie about a bygone era of radio soap operas and 1950s “innocent morality.”
Peter Falk stars as Pedro Carmichael, a radio soap opera writer, while Keanu Reeves is a news reporter at New Orleans’ WXBU radio station. Enter Barbara Hershey as “Aunt Julia,” a ‘wild woman’ as described by her own family because she was divorced twice.
The movie is ‘two stories in one.’ WXBU’s nighttime soap opera comes to life on the screen starring John Laroquette and Dan Hedeya. Their comedic and hilarious performances almost stole the show.
But Director Jon Amiel never lost sight of the main storyline, hence Keanu Reeves’ Martin, Peter Falk’s Pedro Carmichael and Barbara Hershey’s Aunt Julia --- their characters developed nicely in the story.
Costume design did justice to the 1950s with authentic clothes for all the characters, both male and female. Even when men are ‘undressed’ they are wearing a shirt inside, as exemplified by a scene towards the end of the movie where Keanu Reeves and Barbara Hershey just spent the night together and were just waking up.
The use of hats by the female characters was also seen predominantly throughout the movie. Cute hats and very creative looks, though I am unsure if those kind of hat designs were around during the 1950s.
The best part is seeing all the men in a suit and tie, and their hats. That really gave the movie the aura of the 1950s. Nowadays, there will always be someone wearing casual; but not in ‘Tune In Tomorrow,’ where atmosphere is of utmost in the whole movie.
This movie is a delight to watch, that you will find yourself watching it over and over again, hence a ‘must have’ for your DVD or VHS collection.
