Bob Schiffer LOS ANGELES, Apr 30, 2005/ FW/ --- We never saw him on film, but we definitely saw the work of Bob Schiffer on the silver screen as he made Rita Hayworth, Joan Crawford, Myrna Loy, Marlene Dietrich, Paulette Goddard, and Rosalind Russell to look their glamorous best.

Acclaimed for his work in “The Birdman of Alcatraz” wherein he aged Burt Lancaster from 18 to 80, Bob Schiffer’s career spanned decades, beginning in 1934 when he was only 18.

The Seattle, Washington native made his name during his years in RKO Studios wherein he started working in 1935 to earn the reputation as an expert with ladies’ makeup, creating innovative and stylish looks for Joan Crawford, Myrna Loy, Ingrid Bergman and Rita Hayworth, among others.

He is often credited as contributing to the creation of the famous thin eyebrow look of the 1940s.

Yesterday, in a very sad statement from Disney where Schiffer spent the last 33 years of his professional career, the Walt Disney Studios announced the death of Bob Schiffer last April 26th at UCLA Medical Center in Los Angeles, California, from complications due to a stroke. He was 88 years old.

Commenting on Schiffer's passing, Michael D. Eisner, CEO of The Walt Disney Company, said, "Bob was one of the quiet talents who made Hollywood great. His list of film credits includes six decades of classics from 'Top Hat' to 'The Magnificent Ambersons' to 'From Here to Eternity' to 'My Fair Lady' to such memorable Disney films as 'Bedknobs and Broomsticks,' 'Tron,' and 'Splash.'”

“He worked with the legendary stars who we all know by single names -- Astaire, Bogart, Welles, Hepburn, Hayworth, Lancaster, Midler and Hanks. But, among people behind the cameras, Bob was a legend himself. It was my privilege to work with him throughout my 21 years with the company. He was very much a part of the Disney legacy and we will miss him greatly.”

Schiffer is survived by his wife of 53 years, Florence; a son, Douglas Schiffer, and two grandchildren, Cameron and Cody.

Funeral services will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations can be made to the American Cancer Society or the Motion Picture and Television Fund Foundation, 22212 Ventura Boulevard, Suite 300, Woodland Hills, CA 91364
