Tommy Hilfiger: Teeing Off to Support and Build Monument to Honor American’s Dream

WASHINGTON D.C., Jun 20, 2005/ NS/ -- Celebrities and athletes are breaking out their golf clubs in support of a national monument to honor the dream and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. on the National Mall in Washington D.C.
Al Roker, Michael Bolton and Tom Arnold were among the famous names at the Tommy Hilfiger Corporate Foundation’s Fifth Annual All-American Golf Classic, which will benefit the Washington, D.C. Martin Luther King Jr. National Memorial Project Foundation.
The foundation is hoping to build the only monument on the National Mall to honor a person of color. Groundbreaking for the memorial is scheduled for 2006, with a goal of dedicating the memorial in 2008. To date, $38.5 million of the $100 million needed for the project has been raised through corporate and private donations.
The golf tournament was followed by a cocktail reception, dinner hosted by Roker, musical performance by Bolton and a live auction with Arnold as auctioneer.
