Donatella Versace and Actress Teri Hatcher Among The Ten Exceptional Women Who Received the 2005 Women’s World Awards

Teri Hatcher LOS ANGELES, Dec 2, 2005/ FW/ --- Arts, fashion, politics, movies, television, human rights and philanthropy shared the stage last November 29 during the 2005 Women's World Awards where 10 exceptional women were honored for their the unique contributions to the world and as inspirational role models for millions of women around the world.

Donatella Versace, designer for the House of Versace received the World Fashion Award in recognition of her contribution to the fashion industry.

Teri Hatcher, star of the hit TV show ‘Desperate Housewives’ was given the World Actress Award.

"It is remarkable that something as simple as television can empower us to create change and awareness in the world. I am blessed to be able to work at a job I love and also give back in the most vital way -- to people in need," commented Ms. Hatcher in a statement.

  • Catherine Deneuve (World Arts Award for Lifetime Achievement)
  • Benazir Bhutto, former prime minister of Pakistan (World Tolerance Award)
  • Sabine Christiansen, Germany's leading television host (World Media Award)
  • Donatella Versace (World Fashion Award)
  • Alison Lapper, who has challenged society's preconceptions on disability (World Achievement Award)
  • Linda Evangelista (World Style Icon Award)
  • Lisa Stansfield (World Arts Award)
  • Teri Hatcher (World Actress Award)
  • The mothers of SOS Children's Village (Women of the Year Award)
  • Sarah Ferguson, The Duchess of York (World Social Award)
  • The highly emotional awards ceremony brought tears to the eyes of guests and honorees. Among the distinguished speakers was Claudia Roth, former German Human Rights Commissioner, who said, "It is only right to honor the achievements of women in general. I think it is an excellent idea that women from very different areas are awarded this prize, and I am especially happy for having been given the chance to speak here today and praise the accomplishments of these special women."

    Established in Vienna in 2000 by best-selling Austrian author Georg Kinder and former USSR President Mikhail Gorbachev, the World Awards recognizes women who have distinguished themselves in the arts, entertainment, fashion, and social causes fields.

    During a star-studded and emotional ceremony in Leipzig, Germany on November 29, host Mikhail Gorbachev presented awards to all the prize winners.
