LOS ANGELES, Jan 17, 2006/ FW/ --- Last night at the 63rd Golden Globe, acting with a capital A was the big winner, while style with a capital S was the fashion trend at the red carpet.
Echoing the ‘elegance at their own terms’ trend seen on the Milan runways for the ongoing Milan Menswear previews, the stars went for understated chic, beginning with Cecil B. DeMille lifetime achievement award honoree Anthony Hopkins and Best Supporting Actor winner George Clooney, whose classic tux set the tone of the evening.
"Lost"'s Harold Perrineau donned an Ozwald Boateng suit, while Jaime Fox wore a deep purple shirt and a purple blossom discreetly attached to the lapel of Heath Ledger’s tuxedo --- another sign that the Golden Globes is echoing the Milan menswear runways wherein purple is definitely the color of the week.
Though not on the list of nominees for Golden Globes, Versace is a winner for both men and women categories as the stars chose the Milanese house for their togs for the evening.
Denzel Washington chose a midnight blue two-button tuxedo with peak silk satin lapels, white shirt, and blue tie from the Versace Spring/Summer 2006 Men’s collection.
Tim Robbins wore a black two-button tuxedo with peak silk satin lapels, black silk shirt, and black tie from the Versace Spring/Summer 2006 Men’s collection.
Cash Warren, accompanying Jessica Alba, wore a black three-button suit with double pocket detail on the side, white shirt and black tie from the Versace Spring/Summer 2006 Men’s collection.
The women went along with the men for understated chic and elegance, beginning with Best Actress Winner Reese Witherspoon who wore a Chanel dress.
Teri Hatcher, nominee for Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series, chose a bronze sequin evening gown with a plunging V décolleté and a double layer of silk chiffon and beaded tulle, from the Atelier Versace collection, Spring/Summer 2006.
Jessica Alba selected a midnight blue dégradé silk chiffon evening gown with an asymmetrical gathered waist from the Atelier Versace collection, Spring/Summer 2006
Rosario Dawson wore a Vintage Atelier Versace one-shoulder, pleated evening gown in light peach, with with a gold/silver sequined embroidered motif.
Michelle Williams went to Paris for her wardrobe though, choosing a multi-layered strapless flower dress in pleated silk tulle, silk gauze, silk crepon and tulle illusion, embroidered with sequins and crystals in shades of violet, damson and navy blue from the GIVENCHY Haute Couture Fall/Winter 2005-06
And lest we forget… though fashion was a winner last night, exceptional acting is the one that took center stage.
