Over The Hedge

PARIS, May 22, 2006/ FW/ --- As DreamWorks animated film ‘Over The Hedge’ was presented today ‘Out of Competition’ at the Cannes Film Festival, Tim Johnson and Karey Kikpatrick took center stage together with Bruce Willis who lent his voice to the raccoon RJ, the ‘lead character’ in the film.

And though the star-studded cast of Bruce Willis, Gary Shandling, William Shatner, Steve Carell and Avril Lavigne together with the French cast Clovis Cornillac, Laurent Gerra and the singer Jenifer, were never seen on the film, their voices were heard loud and clear.

Still, there is a ‘star’ in the show that truly worked hard in the background, and its voice never heard, nor it was ever seen in the movie. It’s the AMD64 processors!

The use of AMD64 technology helped DreamWorks Animation enhance the artistry of "Over the Hedge," arming digital artists with the processing power necessary to create the film's breathtaking imagery.

"Audiences have come to expect a more immersive experience in every computer animated film," said Jeffrey Katzenberg, DreamWorks Animation co-founder and CEO.

"As a leader in this field, DreamWorks Animation holds itself to the highest standards of innovation and excellence. And that's why we partner with AMD. Their products and commitment to our partnership result in better animation," he added.

DreamWorks Animation digital artists created much of the lighting and special effects for "Over the Hedge" using HP xw9300 workstations and HP DL145G2 ProLiant servers powered by Dual-Core AMD Opteron™ processors.

These systems provided more than 30 percent additional computing power over DreamWorks Animation's previous generation of systems, helping artists work on multiple scenes simultaneously -- similar to how PCs based on AMD Athlon 64 X2 dual-core processors help consumers improve multi-tasking capability.

Now, back to the human cast and in Cannes…

Bruce Willing who was the voice of the raccoon RJ said during the press conference today that ‘RJ was the animal equivalent of David Addison, the character he played in the TV series Moonlighting.’

Concerning Over the Hedge, Willis added. "Young people will find tons of gags and funny details in this film, although its humor is mainly aimed at adults. There is a very solid speech on galloping consumerism and a look into human behavior and society which will amuse, I think, everybody."

The film "Over the Hedge" is about RJ, a traveling raccoon who encourages a group of animals to venture over a large hedge in search of food. The adventure unfolds when the animals interact with humans living nearby.
