NEW YORK, Jul 19, 2006/ FW/ --- Award-winning actress Diane Lane is going to great lengths to kick off a new charitable cause for women with cancer. Lane cut off her A-list tresses for charity, donating her Hollywood hair to a new campaign called Pantene Beautiful Lengths, the first campaign in the country to make free wigs specifically for women with cancer.
One in three women will get cancer in their lifetime and 58% fear hair loss more than any other side effect of cancer. The campaign aims to help give women battling cancer some help in facing the disease with confidence.
In partnership with the Entertainment Industry Foundation (EIF), organizers are hoping to use Lane’s star power to generate awareness about cancer and encourage women and men to grow, cut and donate their healthy hair to make free wigs for women who have lost their hair due to cancer treatment.
Free donation kits for volunteers come with ponytail measuring and cutting instructions, hair ties and a plastic bag for collection as well as mailing instructions for the donated hair, which will be used to make high-quality wigs.
In addition to creating and distributing free wigs made of real hair, Pantene has made a $1 million donation to the Women’s Cancer Research Fund (WCRF), an initiative of the Entertainment Industry Foundation that is committed to saving lives by raising funds and awareness for millions of women and their families at risk of or affected by cancer.
