NEW YORK, Jul 28, 2006/ FW/ --- While automobile racing is one of the most popular sports in the country, local law enforcement discourages many of us from ever putting the pedal to the metal. But for those for whom video games are not enough competition - there are legal outlets for the speed-deprived.
This summer Chevrolet has a virtually sold out tour crossing the country, called “Rev It Up,” featuring Corvettes and super-charged Colbalt SS’s, with a dozen professional drivers on hand to tutor novices.
Local professional drag strips will dedicate a night a week to amateurs. And this time of year abandoned airports and stadium parking lots are often rented out by car manufacturers who sponsor amateur racing in their latest products.
And for those of us who would like someone else to drive… fast, each Rev it Up event will have professional drivers, like “24 hour of Le Mans” winning Corvette team members Johnny O’Connel and Ron Fellows taking customers on hot laps in the new 505-horsepower Corvette Z06.
