NEW YORK, Sep 11, 2006/ FW/ --- One of the high profile events during fashion week is Conde Nast sponsored ‘Fashion Rocks’ held last Sep 7 at the Radio City Music Hall and the event including red carpet arrivals and performances aired on CBS Sep 8.

A gala entertainment special, Fashion Rocks combines music and fashion in a star-studded concert honoring the extraordinary relationship between fashion and music.

With performances by David Bowie, Destiny's Child (in their last televised appearance as a group), Duran Duran, Billy Idol, Alicia Keys, Tim McGraw, Nelly, Shakira, Gwen Stefani, Joss Stone, The Arcade Fire and Rob Thomas, ‘Fashion Rocks’ rivals both the Grammy’s and MTV Video Music Awards as a musical event.

In terms of red carpet, think of VMA when it used to be the ‘cool’ fashion scene for celebrities; when ‘anything goes’ meant dressing up to the hilt from a big fashion house like Versace to sporting an outfit from a celebrity’s own line like Eve.

Speaking of Versace, the Italian fashion house dressed singer Nelly Fortado for her red carpet arrival. Clad in a deep navy blue silk chiffon evening gown with a halter neck and cut out cross over detailing over the shoulders, the Portuguese Canadian musical artist on an interview at the red carpet revealed her performance wardrobe for the night.

“I’m wearing a shirt - it’s black and sparkly with big puffy sleeves - that has its own modern twist. It really fits the energy of my song ‘Maneater’ really well,” Nelly told CBS, which by the way is where Fashion Rocks aired.

Just on its second year, Fashion Rocks is becoming a yearly occurrence to kick off the New York season. To celebrate its second anniversary, ‘Fashion Rocks’ magazine inspired by the event is being launched on Tuesday.

Gracing the cover for its initial issue are Beyoncé and Jamie Foxx. The magazine will also feature a behind-the-scenes set visit of their upcoming movie, "Dreamgirls" and offers in-depth features on Elton John and Justin Timberlake.
