NEW YORK, Nov 4, 2006/ FW/ --- The awards have been given and the applause have died down, but Shakira remains this year’s biggest name at the Latin Grammy as she led the star-studded field with six Latin Grammy nominations and winning five of them including Album of the Year.
Shakira made history with the award, becoming the first female artist to win Album of the Year in the Latin Grammy Awards history.
The 7th Annual Latin Grammy Awards were held at Madison Square Garden in New York City on November 2, 2006. This was the first time the award show was held in New York. The show has previously been held in Los Angeles and Miami. It was aired on Univision at 8:00PM ET.
Ricky Martin also received a special award for Person of the Year for his long and illustrious career in Latin music.
And like the Grammy Awards, the Latin Grammy is also a star-studded affair wherein the red carpet becomes a catwalk. Catalina Sandino Moreno, star actress of Ethan Hawke's recent film "The Hottest State," and a presenter during the event wore a Versace long, dark green, silk jersey dress with draping and micro crystal embroidery.
