PARIS, Mar 14, 2003/ FW/ --- As the U.S. stock market slipped to its biggest drop since its
high during the dot com boom, Singapore-born designer Andrew Gn's star was rising at the
Carrousel of the Louvre.
With most of the international press were still asleep after partying until the wee hours the night
before, Andrew Gn's front row was filled with retail buyers and a handful of editors.
And this worked well for the designer who showed a very strong collection this season and
kept the retail buyers busy taking notes during the whole show.
Entitled "A Homage To Romanticism," Andrew Gn drew inspiration from the Renaissance, La
Pastorale of the 18th century, the 19th century Victorian period up the the New Romantics
of the 1980s.
The inspiration might be eclectic, but the collection was very focused.
Starting with snow art deco embroidered wool jacket with a fur collar and jet cashmere
britches paired with knee high black boots, it was all about romance as his show notes
stated.
His choice of fabric was eclectic from sil georgette to velour and chantilly lace. But
instead of being lost, the theme of the collection pulled them all together.
The strongest pieces were the jackets and the pants which were truly beautiful from afar
and up close.
The accessory of choice were dog collars made from the same fabric of the outfit.
The only downside of this collection is that there were some outfits were there were
too many silk flowers that were used.
Its saving grace - the silk flowers can easily be removed once off the runway and in the
showroom and sales floor.
