Venezuelan-born Angel Sanchez was born with needle and thread on his hands. His family owned a made-to-order
dressmaking business Valera, Venezuela. Although he showed at an early age his aptitude in fashion design, he
went to architecture. In the end, genetics and heritage won out and Angel Sanchez was drawn to fashion design,
combining his architectural skills to cutting and designing techniques that he knew by heart.
He launched his own label in 1991, and was an instant commercial success in his native Venezuela. In 1993, he
debuted at Miami Fashion Week, and opened a showroom in New York in 1995. Three years later (1998) he debuted
in New York's Bridal Week, showing his bridal collection. His prestige as an international figure was enhanced
by the crowning of Miss World 1995 (Jackeline Aguilera) and Miss Universe 1996 (Alicia Machado) where both
beauty queens wore his creations. He continued to expand his business and won the The Golden Coast Fashion Award from
the buyers and retailers of North America.
Confident, talented and full of energy, Angel Sanchez debuted at 7th on Sixth, capturing the attention of the media
and of course, retail buyers.

Angel Sanchez: A Taste of Luxury

New York, Feb 15, 2001 / FashionWindows --- To the designer who dressed up Miss World 1995 (Jackeline Aguilera) and
Miss Universe 1996 (Alicia Machado) for their evening gown competition, creating clothes that make one regal-looking
is second nature. And that is the gist of Angel Sanchez's Fall 2001 collection.
With a collection leaning heavily on evening gowns, Angel Sanchez's talent lies on his meticulous attention to detail
and making structural clothes look flowing. Body hugging and emphasizing the woman's figure, the collection was
very feminine, yet meant for a self-assured, self-confident woman. Yes, just like Miss Universe and Miss World - aware
of their beauty and femininity, yet unafraid to exert their personality.
Using luxurious fabrics ranging from fur to metallics, Angel Sanchez chose to show black as the main color palette, and
added specs of color along the way. His acquiescense to the military trend - he used green in some of the gowns. Other
than that, the designer stayed true to form and presented a luxurious collection meant for the urban woman.
Accessory of note are the stilleto boots that matched the outfit. They were used with both daywear and eveningwear. High
slits for the long gowns and above-knee hem length for both daywear and eveningwear.
