Antonio Marras MILAN, Jan 26, 2005/ FW/ --- Sardinian Antonio Marras has gained inspiration from his native country for his collection. Many of his shirts displayed the famous Sardinian flag, which is represented by a white base with a red cross in the middle and 4 pictures of a moor’s head.

This moor’s head is a political statement in itself since it is said to be the head of the black patron warrior saint of the Holy Roman Empire, Saint Maurice.

The collection began with very rustic looks from the early years of the Depression. Baggy suits in dusty brown and plaids were the highlights. Most of the outfits were accompanied by combat boots which definitely gave it a rural old country look.

Printed cardigans with orange and brown motifs were teamed with front pleated trousers. Messenger bags in leather and variations of screen prints and plaids were the consistent accessory.

Sticking with the militant roots, army fatigue cargo trousers and coats were mix matched with tweeds and layered jumpers.

More baggy suits made their way down the catwalk in red plaid styled with veduras and slip in Birkenstock style clogs. Large cuffs were spotted on jeans reminiscent of real messenger and newspaper boys from the 20’s.

Screen printed tees with the moor’s head was a show stopper and political statement. A pale pink blazer softened the collection followed by more school boy silhouettes.

Antonio Marras is a rebel of fashion for autumn/winter 2005.
