PARIS, Jul 3, 2002/ FW/ --- At noontime on Tuesday, Antonio Miro offered up a splendid
collection in the gold mirrored salon of Hôtel St. James on Rue St. Honoré.
The 18th Century shuttered windows looked out over a beautiful garden, a wonderful backdrop
for the day's most impressive presentation.
Even more wonderful was the gracious hospitality offered by this Catalonian designer.
There were hors d'oeuvres, chilled Pinot Gris, and ripe Forme d'Ambert cheese served in an
anteroom.
With shows staged every hour, and meals hard to come by, this kind gesture was warmly
appreciated by the bevy of photographers that follow the identical course each day.
There were beautiful people in abundance on the benches that lined the stateroom: elegant,
Chanel-clad women with pearls, beautiful men of swarthy, Spanish lineage, and then an ample
supply of what might best be described as "the chic racing set".
Barcelona is said to be a gorgeous town, and one might add elegant to that description.
The show began with textured white suits worn over beautiful white print shirts.
Then it was transparent shirts, and then rose shirts. It was the shirts!
The look was relaxed but chic, and the youthfulness of it all carried a Slimane-esque overtone.
The models themselves were very young, chiseled, and predominately blonde.
Mr. Miro's palette of colors eventually branched out to cool lime, goldenrod, and the palest
peach.
For ornaments, the lapels of some of the suits bore cross and chain decoration highly
reminiscent of the Fall 2002 collection from Dior.
The working class brown pants with suspenders looked highly out of place, though, especially
given that Miro caters to far more cultivated crowd.
All in all, it was a strong collection, and one worthy of notice.
More is the pity that most of the world's fashion press had already cleared French airspace
by the time it even began.
