PARIS, Jul 2, 2003/ FW/ --- From Barcelona to Mexico, the
Catalan designer changed gears this season,
presenting a sultry collection for Summer 2004 inspired by life and romance
from south of the border.
A change of venue, and a change of themes must
have worked, for this collection was far more convincing than the last.
Then again, with the clouds of war dissipating, and the stock market rising,
a good does of optimism does wonders for the psyche.
Whatever the reason, this show packed heat.
In a light, bright workshop with sun pouring through overhead skylights, the
cool collection of linen pants and pastel print shirts hit the catwalk atop
gray pointy boots.
High waist balloon pants in charcoal and slate,
contrasted with emerald suits rolled up to the ankles.
Shirts and knitwear, embroidered, printed and splashed with fuchsia, iris
and geranium red blossomed.
As the soundtrack turned to a frenzied guitar, black toreador pants wound
with slick leather cummerbunds, white shirts ripped open to the waist, made
for a scene right out of Tennessee William's masterpiece "Night of the
Iguana".
To finish off a Latin evening, peaked lapel tuxedos were worn with
white trousers rolled up over cowboy boots.
The show was so impregnated with sizzle, the only thing missing was a nice,
cold Margarita.
