Benoit Missolin: Life's A Party

PARIS, Jul 2, 2002/ FW/ --- Just in time for Independence Day, Benoit Missolin rolled out a
fun summertime collection with a party theme.
The staff passed out lollypops to the guests, and they sucked away while waiting for the
show to start, 40 minutes late.
There were no fireworks, but instead, everything for a parade: majorettes, feathers, and
Stars and Stripes forever.
Mr. Missolin was the second designer to mingle men and women's lines in one show, though
with two strikingly different looks, and without any intention of them being interchangeable.
The male models wore party hats with gold glitter glued around their eyes, while the women
were decked out in outlandish hats, including a plumed affair which looked straight out of
the French Revolution.
And it's all part of the same theme anyway, Franco-American celebrations of liberty and
equality that fall only one week apart on the July calendar.
In any event, there were some stunning party clothes in this collection, including gold
striped pants, and ruffled shirts for the adventurous guys.
And on the other side, turquoise skirts with gold see-through blouses, or star-speckled
translucent slacks for the exhibitionist-leaning babes.
When it all ended to the strains of "Tainted Love", it would have been a great time to
hit the beach, had not the day still been young, with more shows to go.
