PARIS, Jan 31, 2005/ FW/ --- Straight from today’s headlines, Bernard Willhelm brought the Middle East on the runway, in a sporty kind of way, as he put on graphics and icons, even the silhouettes of a thousand year old civilization onto the modern man.
Following the color trend that has gripped both Milan and Paris this season, Willhelm used gold, old rose, burnt orange, red and blue on jackets, jogging suits and outerwear, creating a collection that is vivid and vibrant, something that can easily catch the eyes.
An innovative approach was seen on the quilted leather jacket, as Willhelm tucked and pinned the material using gold buttons giving volume and texture on the material.
Interesting to note is that the traditional garb of the Middle East man was also put on the runway. And though this will definitely sell in that part of the world, it might be a hard sell to the west.
The look and feel is definitely Bernard Willhelm, even as the designer tackles the hip-hop subculture with this collection by using inspirations from a very different part of the world.
Whether the youth market will procure this collection still remains to be seen. One thing remains though – Bernard Willhelm’s artistic tendencies continue to be a big part of his creations.
