Bernhard Willhelm DALLAS, Jan 8, 2006/ FW/ --- Straight from comic books and the movies, German designer Bernhard Willhelm wants her ladies to be ‘strong’ this coming Spring / Summer 2006, as he dresses them ala super heroines like Super Girl.

Truly, this collection is just in time when it hits stores in March as the new Superman movie, ‘Superman Returns’ starring Brandon Routh as the Man of Steel and Kate Bosworth as Lois Lane hits theaters this summer.

And since it has been 4 long years since Hollywood has produced a Superman movie, it is expected to be a blockbuster. So, Bernhard Willhelm is right on target for the female fans of the Man of Steel, wherein wearing a different interpretation of Superman’s costume will be a treat.

Actually, Bernhard Willhelm caught the zeitgeist of today’s youth. With video games and the success of sci-fi, super hero thrillers like Fantastic Four and X Men (currently in production for X Men 3), interpreting the heroes’ costumes for contemporary clothing might be the way to go to attract the video gaming generation.

There is a catch though. Gamers are mostly males and they are in front of their Playstation, Xbox or Nintendo most of the time to care about fashion. And for the female gamers, although they definitely care more on what they wear, this collection might be ‘out of reach for them’ even too outlandish to use a phrase.

You see, the gaming community in general believe that the costumes worn by the video game characters cannot be translated into real clothing. It’s not surprising really, since most video game developers are predominantly men.

So, although Bernhard Willhelm might be targeting a niche market on this collection, he might have missed his objective.

Nevertheless, all is not lost. The German-born designer has a cult following and they will surely visit stores in March looking for the latest collection from their favorite designer.
