Feb 20, 2001/FW / --- Sachido Okada and Aaron Sharif of Blaak decided that the world is not just black and white nor
it is just shades of gray.
The world is full of colors and that is what they sent on the
runway for Fall 2001, their first on-schedule show at London Fashion Week.
Part of the New Generation Designers sponsored by Marks & Spencer, Blaak's Fall 2001 collection
was a mix of colors ranging from black and white (as expected!), navy, dark green, dark red with
splashes of yellow, pink and ecru.
Showing both menswear and womenswear, the collection was mainly contemporary with a hint of the
classics updated and interpreted by the designers.
Black and gray ensemble - black pencil cut skirt reminiscent of the 1950s was paired with a
quasi military jacket, the epaulet was on the front of the shoulders and used to pin
"wings."
The same concept was repeated in a dark red ensemble - the difference, a
bow was used as an embellishment.
Women's coats were generously cut and rounded on the shoulders.
Slouchy pants and did I see
a pair of culottes?
Hemline update for women - below the knee or just on the knee.
The men's collection was a reinterpretation of classics such as the checkered flag jumpers
(as in Indy 500), logo shirts, striped motorcross shirt and the Mackintosh.
There were no innovative designs nor fabric treatment, but the whole collection was
very wearable and commercially viable.
Geared towards the teens to late twenties, the
collection is something you would wear in a school campus.
