Paris, Oct 6, 2001/ FWD/ --- Life is good at Cacharel. Colorful and spirited, romantic and
sometimes mischievous, the perennial 'candy' collection evokes an air of optimism and innocent
folly.
For Spring 2002, Suzanne Clements and Inacio Ribeiro -- the British duo that revived the French
label a year ago - took the best of Cacharel and injected a twist of teenage angst to its leisurely
perky look.
Showing very few trousers, Cacharel stuck with flirty, feminine dresses and skirted ensembles in
a kaleidoscope of prints from ginghams and gum-stripes to chartreuse-based florals and alphabet
fonts.
Balancing the indiscretion of juxtaposed patterns were some very clean, proper girl
looks: tailored sleeveless tops neatly tucked into knee-length A-line skirts and slightly longer
lollipop-red prairie ones; pretty, ruffle-front and simple, wrapped dresses.
Every so often, a few strongly tailored, mature pieces: a black piqued shoulder dress that
softened below the belt and a well-crafted white leather jacket with strong shoulders and
thin ruffle detailing.
Adding a bit of subversion to the new Cacharel, were fishnet leggings that peeked out from
under the skirts, as if they had been left on from the night before.
And though the clothes were strong on their own, it was the shoes- espadrilles in a host of
intoxicating stripes and patterns - that gave the fashion editors a rosy glow, post-show.
