NEW YORK, Feb 10, 2003/ FW/ --- If you think Carolina Herrera does not know how to dress up 'bad girls',
then you should see her Fall 2003 collection.
Seductively elegant ladies who lunch with a little mischief on their minds!
Her program notes said that she was inspired by the 1950s heroines of Alfred Hitchcock and
Billy Wilder and she stayed true on that one.
Reminiscent of the screen goddesses of the era, Carolina Herrera sent below the knee kick-pleat
skirts paired with belted jackets.
But don't think that the clothes look old.
They might be 1950s inspired, but they definitely look like something from this century.
And the mischief?
Well, think of today's career women during cocktail hour? She might not be one of the ladies of
the lunch who are Ms. Herrera's main clientele, but this career woman definitely has the
umph of just being herself and enjoy a drink during the work week.
The interesting part of this collection is the color palette that was used.
Though the clothes are definitely for fall, lighter colors dominate.
Oh yes, there was the expected black and red, used both in daywear and eveningwear.
This, intermixed with lighter colors would have made the collection seem unfocused.
But not at the hands of Carolina Herrera who has the experienced touch of a master, mixing
and matching without losing focus.
Even the silhouette is mixed - from the kick-pleat skirts and body hugging gowns to the fuller
skirts in black lace and organza.
Not once during the show did you feel that you are lost.
Ms. Herrera pulled it together with her theme, silver screen heroines, and it all made sense.
