NEW YORK, Feb 7, 2006/ FW/ --- The elegance of a bygone era introduced to a new generation, Carolina Herrera’s Fall 2006 collection was inspired by the women of the late 1950s, namely Claudia Cardinale in ‘The Pink Panther’ and Jeanne Moreau in ‘Les Liaisons Dangereuses.’

The silhouette is slim, focusing on feminine suiting not inspired by men’s tailoring, but the needs of sophisticated women who balance family, career and a social life, Carolina Herrera created a complete wardrobe from daywear to evening wear, bringing her from a walk in the park, to the board room, shopping and attending premiers.

Opting for the subdued tones of rich fall colors - rust, turquoise, opera red with accents of black and chocolate brown to balance the color palette, used as solids and in prints from graphical to plaid, Herrera stayed within her signature style of understated elegance.

Playing with the affection of the younger generation by creating wide legged pants and comfy sweaters, plus slinky body hugging gowns with spaghetti straps, Herrera did not forget her more refined followers by giving them boat neck suits and pencil skirts, baby doll collars and bias cut skirts.

Creating delicious coats in double face wool some with fox trim as well as jackets with ¾ sleeves, one in mink with fox trim, and outer jacket with fur peeking at the collar and cuffs – both mother and daughter would want them in their wardrobes.

Toned down embellishments but just the right touch in the right place as in her fully embellished belt bands as shown in her rust swirl print fils coupe gown with attached embroidered belt and the opera red silk chiffon basket weave shirt gown also with embroidery belt kept focus on the waistline.

Dresses and skirts in straight, bias and pencil cut and pants both in wide and straight leg cuts that can easily be mix and matched with her v-neck sweaters in cashmere/silk.

Other fine detailing included the twisted pleat detail on a shirt dress, appliqué, turquoise brooch detail on a dress, and ¾ draped sleeves on a fils coupe jacket with black broadtail.

Sexy does not translate to “the more skin the better.” In Carolina Herrera’s eyes, this season is about “playing the game of seduction without showing too much skin” as mentioned in her program and that she proved right with the wonderful and mouthwatering evening pieces presented.
