MILAN, Jan 14, 2004/ FW/ --- Luxurious, rich and elite, Roberto Cavalli makes no qualms in not being accessible to the everyday Joe.
His 2004 autumn winter collection shown last Monday was aimed at the timeless world traveller, a wealthy gypsy who jet sets from one of his villa residences to another.
Cavalli in the past has often been synonymous of outright excess in the form of furs, feathers and animal prints.
The surprise this season is the delightful aspect of his use of wearable simple lines. He invites males the world over to mix and match, create and show off, but most of all, to love to be looked at.
His sexy cosmopolitan man is in awe of the seventies, the cult status of good looks, good times, good rock and roll, and experimenting.
It is a celebration of bow ties, tuxedos, fleece and fur lined jackets.
Streamline pants often with lacing down the side seams, shape the male rear in a raunchy tone while ethnic influences come in the form of Indian shirts and rich embroidery.
Turtleneck sweaters are a must under the perfect leather and sheepskin jackets.
The unmistakable slim ski jacket and padded elbow bands couldn’t but not, be part of the Cavalli wardrobe.
Denim comes in the form of jeans styled with cumber buns and is a patchwork dream. Prints ala Cavalli is often limited to shirts, recalling works from the artist Mark Rothko.
A delicious aubergine suit is an indication that the Cavalli man next winter will be the centre of attention, whether in a star studded room, or simply at a table in the corner of a dingy live rock club sipping spirits.
