Roberto Cavalli Roberto Cavalli MILAN, Feb 21, 2007/ FW/ --- The stage looked like a movie set, an art deco temple and a catwalk in beige made to look like sand. So, when Liya Kebede came out of the temple wearing a felt cowboy hat, white trousers that tapered towards the ankle adorned with grommets and a white silk shirt and tie, one could not help but ask, ‘Is Indiana Jones in Milan?’

Thinking of Hollywood in a fashion show? Maybe its because Sharon Stone was there. Together with Steve Tyler, they caused a photographer’s mayhem that contributed to the late start of the show.

But the audience was patient although it was an hour late. It was hard not to stare at Sharon Stone and join in taking snapshots of her. Of course, she was just the icing on the cake. The real star was the Roberto Cavalli Fall 2007 / Winter 2008 collection that proved once more the designer’s mastery of tailoring techniques!

A restrained collection compared to Roberto Cavalli’s own exuberance, it was almost like Victor/Victoria, but this time, it’s Indiana Jones and the Lady in Distress, as models alternated coming out wearing the legendary action hero inspired clothing with the signature Roberto Cavalli sexy looks.

Trench coats came traditional, the luxury part hidden on the silk lining. Blousons were cut generously, the band featured rivets and a thin sash added like a drawstring. The safari jacket was reworked; giving it volume by adding expanded pockets and slightly sheered at the waist with a belt made from the same material.

And of course, there were the fur coats (this was a Roberto Cavalli show after all!). From the designer’s favorite, leopard skin cut as a trapeze coat to mink, it was luxurious without being overt.

Indy’s influence was not just seen on the trousers and mannish clothing. It was also seen on the skirt suits. Pencil skirts were paired with snug fitting bush jackets.

Still, it was the final exits of gowns that brought down the house. A deep green V-neck gown that was ruched so tiny, it look like micro accordion pleats, to the halter neck green chiffon adorned with a bustier-inspired belt in semi-precious stones. And of course, Liya Kebede in a svelte golden gown that showed off her every curve closed the show.
