Roberto Cavalli MILAN, Jan 16, 2007/ FW/ --- Thirty five years after his death, Jim Morrison remains a rock icon; his music, his charisma, even the enigma of his death continue to capture the imagination of young men, some of whom were not even born yet when Morrison was alive.

Roberto Cavalli, a designer who had never shied away from rock & roll chose the lead singer of The Doors as his muse, sending skinny pants, slim fit suits and ruffle-front shirts on the runway.

Obviously, there is a 1970s feel to the collection (Jim Morrison died in Dec 1971 during the height of his popularity), but instead of the collection being dated, Roberto Cavalli’s signature aesthetics made it contemporary.

Like the opening look – a black t-shirt with a cubist print of Jim Morrison photos paired with slim fit trousers that flared ever so slightly at the hem, and embellished with micro ruffles at the seams giving it a tuxedo pants effect, yet remaining informal, even casual.

The silhouette was generally slim, again a direct result of the designer’s muse who usually wore skinny pants and shirts. So, it was not surprising that even the sweaters, jackets and cardigans that were proposed were all slim fitting.

But of course, there are the signature Cavalli items – snakeskin, velvet and fur all worked in the collection.

And, just in case you are wondering what hairstyles the models wore, they were also 1970s inspired mops – a little bit on the long side and ‘bed head,’ that just woken up look or ‘not had seen a comb or brush in a week.’
