MILAN, Oct 1, 2006/ FW/ --- The Roberto Cavalli Show was one of the most crowded scenes this season. With special guests and an overbooked show the line between the worthy and the meek was clear. The PR made a big scene for Jay-Z escorting him into decked out waiting room.
Set up as an open market snacks and drinks were served as all standing tickets had to wait until the show started to enter. With even a difference in colour between seated and standing tickets it just goes to show you how exclusive the Cavalli woman really is.
Made for a stylish queen the Roberto Cavalli woman is the VIP of VIP’s, she knows it and wants to show it off. This season rich luxurious fabrics coated her precious body in mini tight forms or long and flowy gowns. A mix between New York in the 20’s and bull fights in Spain influences were masterly blended together.
The pieces were beautiful with short bolero jackets covered in intricate detail. Sparkling fabrics that dazzled and danced down the runway. Hints of romantic Victorian blended with the colours and traditions of Spain. High wasted dresses had beautiful volumes of accordion pleats. Side seams were masterfully avoided as straps wrapped around the back connecting to the bodice in the front.
Bright colours were mixed together like Kelly greens and pool blue. Flapper details were blended with Spanish tassels and open crotchets. Lace was used as embellishments and layered garments. One wrap dress had a high collared lace slip lightly covering the open skin of the deep v-neck.
Animal influence a signature of Cavalli were shown in tiger and leopard prints. A jaw dropping dress in light chiffon with long princess sleeves had a remake of a tiger print. Starting in the centre the wild stripes twirled out on the dress on light fabric that’s movements and long tail were like the quick fluid ways of the tiger.
Dresses with crotchet inserts and large ruffles were followed by tailored suits. Like a chase the elegant evening gowns were followed by their more manly counter outfits. Everything was brilliant and sparkly and catching to the eye. Desire was created but not fulfilled.
Roberto Cavalli created an ethereal image of a majestic beauty that could almost be a mirage. She’s aloof and untouchable like a beautiful dream that haunts your fantasies.
