Paris, Mar 13, 2001/ FWD/ --- Michael Kors returned to the seaside for this Céline Fall-Winter
2001-2002 womenswear collection, and the result was as passionate and warm as two lovers' runaway
weekend.
"Whether it's Deauville, Biarritz, Nantucket or Saint-Tropez, the beach in the winter time has
a certain romanticism," Kors told FWD backstage after the show under a tent next to the Trocadero
fountains.
"That whole idea of girls walking on the misty boardwalk, and everyone is staring at
them. Sexy and strong. That's what it's about."
And for Kors, that meant casually luxurious clothes to wrap yourself in, like a navy and steel
striped doubleface pea coat and ivory cashmere shrug, or an indigo plaid shearling jacket over
a ivory cashmere pullover and cranberry distressed jeans.
For Céline, Kors does wonderful
classics in the finest materials available, and gives them just the touch of edginess to
make them belong today: an ivory cashmere tunic dress with a wide coyote collar, for example,
or a black leather motorcycle trench.
His accessories further reinforce that line, especially
the new leather duffel backpacks and black army-style hiking boots.
Kors' muses are forthright yet elegant women, such as Old Hollywood icons Marlene Dietrich
and Katharine Hepburn, and today's fashion plates Chloe Sevigny or Isabelle Huppert, who was
seated in the front row.

His clothes would fit any of them, particularly this collection's
languid silk slip evening gowns. In fact, look for them at the Oscars later this month.
But Kors insists his Céline isn't just for celebrities.
"For me, there's a thread," Kors explained. "Women don't throw out their clothes at the end
of each season and buy a whole new collection. They look at their wardrobe and say to themselves,
'What do I need?' It's about continuation."
And what Kors offered this time was certainly the next logical chapter in his book for Céline.
