Celine Goes Cruisin

PARIS, Oct 13, 2002/ FWD/ --- Pinks, orange, silk and embroideries - when designer Michael
Kors conjured up luxe visions of the Celine client he was thinking Asian and exotic.
Well, to be precise, as Kors informed FWD after this afternoon's show, he was thinking
"Veruschka on a big yacht - on a world cruise, visiting Morocco and China and probably
stopping off in India on the way back."
This translated into one too many short, off-the-shoulder tunics in silk georgette with
brushstrokes of pink and orange, a swirl print brown top with gold sequin tracery and a
metallic shot silk top tied at the waist and worn over hot pants.
Brocade effect jackets were in orange or faded green duchesse silk embroidered with flowers
and were a recurring theme throughout the show as boleros or longer jackets with shawl collars.
Kors' luxurious vision eased itself into city life with casually chic washed silk trenches
and suede skirts and jerkins, their seams outlined with gold studs.
Accessory-wise, Kors dangled long and pink scarves around everything and a high-fastening,
short white jacket over ecru pants looked beautiful wrapped with a pink obi held in place
with a leather belt.
Saddle bags were slung across the body, maybe with a scarf strap or embroidered in a gold
Celine logo.
Yet, despite a clearer and more comprehensive vision than in previous subdued collections,
Kors is still confused as to who the Celine client may be.
That can be the only explanation for brief mini dresses in blinding shades yoked under
the bust for a bronzed 25-year-old that jarred with his lyrical fantasies.
