PARIS, Nov 8, 2004/ FW/ --- In his debut collection for the French fashion house Céline,
Roberto Menichetti launched a new era in style for the fashion house.
Albeit very different from what buyers and journalists had become well accustomed to under the long rein of Michael Kors, this maiden collection marks another positive turning point in the existence of the fashion house.
This collection features a look that is far less sexy than that envisioned by Menichetti’s predecessor. This look, in its own right, is wearable and safe although audacious at times as seen in some of the dresses.
The lines are clean as evidenced in the skirts and dresses. They are discrete and will set themselves apart by the quality of their cut and the beautiful fabrics from which they are made.
Again the dresses are just one of the positive points in this collection which has numerous inspirations from the 60s. Some of them are backless and fall to the kidney area. Ouch because they are hot!!!
The blouses, in an objective point of view, may be the strongest and the most innovative aspects from the collection. They should attract a wide age range from Celine’s traditional clientele while at the same time pick up new clients. I personally adored them. They unbutton at the shoulders and take on the appearance of wings.
And one must not overlook the short coats with double buttons. They are right in line with the spirit that other designers created for this season. Those proposed by Menichetti do have a quality of seduction to them as they grant women an element of mystery.
