Paris, Mar 15, 2001/ FWD/ --- The invitation said it all -- a stiff ecru card with light gray
lettering inviting you to an another subtly minimalist collection from Peter Speliopoulos
for Cerruti.
Staged in the Galerie du Cinéma of the Palais de Chaillot, the long curving space was an apt
setting for the fall show, whose palette was cement, beige and light blue. Even the models were
understated -- their makeup pale, their lipstick the lightest pink.
The clothes were understated luxury par excellence. Reversible minks worn with supple suede
dusters or cabans for the cold; dexterous yet slinky semi-transparent sequined tops and dresses
for when the heat is turned up.
The quieter tones were well complimented by great Manolo Blahnik slingbacks in gray and beige
harlequin patterns.
Peter did throw in a little black. A multi-ribboned little black dress on Stella Tennant made
you long for more. But overall the designer seemed to be saying, why flaunt it when you know
you've got it.
