MILAN, Oct 1, 2003/ FW/ --- Guitar strings strum and the modern working woman walks tall and lean, a collection proposed for spring summer 2004 by Cerruti 1881 is one of class and simplicity.
Masculine and feminine elements are mixed together by way of tailored mens pants and shorts, side seam ribbons down the legs tuxedo style along with satin lapels on jackets.
She is a contemporary woman at work and play, serious and professional, but with an inkling of diversion in her eye. Predominately monochrome, however there is a minimal use of floral print on the odd shirt.
Suede overcoats for summer belted at the waist as often are the little jackets that accompany pants and skirts. Trousers can be matchstick style, high on the waist or baggy and comfortable with gathers at the bottom for weekend wear. Knickerbocker long shorts make an appearance even if briefly, perhaps in an ode to the 1970’s.
Short elasticised jackets are cut in classic denim style. Bomber jackets and track tops can be worn with just about anything abolishing the generalisation of sportswear. Strapless dresses are figure hugging with seams and boning visible as details.
Evenings are reserved for tactical graphical cut aways on the back of dresses that move between pearl and classic black. Pretty in pleats and ribbons, bows and the use of crystals that shimmer in the light. Skirt tails fall away from the hips behind dresses transforming the hard working woman into a stylish, chic lady.
Cerruti 1881 manages to show that the professional woman of today can be both vunerable and feminine, executive and dominatrix.
This is Hollywood designer David Cardona’s first season with the well known fashion house.
