New York, Feb 8, 2001/ --- In Hollywood, there is an old adage, "A child and a dog will surely upstage
an actor." If you try to put a dog on the runway, it will catch the audience attention and not the
clothes.
Ron Chereskin was counting on that with his Fall 2001 runway show. A friend of the Humane Society, the
designer had been putting homeless dogs on the runway for several seasons to help the New York Humane
Society find homes for them. And so far, he has been very successful! If you're wondering if his line
of clothes also sell as fast as the dogs find a home, you bet! Ron Chereskin is a commercially
successful menswear designer and known for his trendy yet comfortable styles that exude a distinct and
sophisticated quality.
The designer's Fall 2001 collection ran true-to-form. Trendy sporswear for the urban male based on a
simple color pallette of ecru, olive green, brown and taupe were paraded on the runway. From the
more formal coat and tie to the soft shade sweaters for a weekend at the Hamptons, the Ron Chereskin
male looked comfortable and at ease with himself.
Rich in detailing and texture, the collection catered for both the young and young at heart. And
if the smiles on the department store bigwigs are an indication, you can expect this collection
to hit the store by June.
The surprise for the evening - Marcus Shenkenberg walked the runway with a dog in his arms. The outfit he
was wearing woule be auctioned to benefit The Humane Society of New York. Truly, Ron Chereskin has
gone to the dogs! And I understand. I'm a proud owner of a Welsh Corgi myself and caring for the animal's
welfare does not end with your own pet. It extends to the unfortunate ones who do not have a home.
