DALLAS, Nov 3, 2004/ FW/ --- Tuesday night, at the British Fashion Awards, Chloe’s Artistic Director, Phoebe Philo was bestowed the highest honor by the British Fashion Awards by giving her the title Designer of the Year.
Philo, who debuted as the Artistic Director of the legendary French fashion house during the Spring 2002 Paris season after her boss, Stella McCartney left to launch her own label had consistently received favorable reviews from fashion critics.
And her Spring 2005 collection, presented at the Jardin des Tuileries in Paris last month is no different, a statement of feminine charm that is sweet and alluring.
Phoebe Philo is known for raising the bar on herself season after season is known for creating “Chloé sexy” clothes which is “not vulgar, not cheap, but refined.” For Philo, it is always about finding great things to wear.
So for Spring 2005, Phoebe Philo sent out below the knee dresses with the innocence of the 1950s and the sultriness of Marilyn Monroe in the deep V-necklines and spaghetti strap ensembles that emphasized the shoulders.
Then, there is the white and gray trench coat decorated with big black buttons that even Audrey Hepburn would have gladly worn.
In short, Phoebe Philo got the “looks” that make women from their 20’s to their 50s gaga over the collection.
So, truly, her award last Tuesday is well deserved. She beat out other fashion bigwigs, fellow nominees Christopher Bailey, the creative director of Burberry and the London-based Frenchman Roland Mouret to the coveted award
