PARIS, Jun 30, 2003/ FW/ --- Christophe Lemaire, who previously signed a collection
for Lacoste, presented an eponymous men's line for Spring / Summer 2004.
What is clear as that he left Lacoste. What is unclear is where he went.
The style was not preppy, not hip-hop, not urban chic, not androgynous, not exotic.
The colors were neither too bright, nor too muted.
The cut was not too baggy, and it
was not too tight. The pieces were not experimental, and they were not retro.
The look was not sensuous, and it was not Goth.
The room was hot, and the start time was late.
When you have all of the above ingredients, you have what Seinfeld once called
"a show about nothin'."
In laymen's terms, you have a collection geared towards Joe Schmo: your average guy
in an average job, who drives an average car in an average town, and shops at an average mall.
In other words, you have a commercial success.
