Paris /FWD/ --- Australian designer Collette Dinnigan makes pretty clothes for pretty girls, just
like herself.
The models even looked like the cute, curvy blond during her Fall-Winter 2001-2002
show at the Espace BMCS this afternoon, with straight blow-dried hair, bangs and natural makeup.
That may be the secret to Dinnigan's success too. Because in the end, women want to be attractive,
and her clothes accomplish that.
Take the opening passage of the collection of bias-cut burgundy
chiffon dresses and suits with kimono sleeves and Asian floral embroidery.
They kindly highlighted the female form.
Some of the femininity was truly over the top though, like the princess coats in 18th-century
French brocade.
But there were a few fun and hip pieces too, like slip shifts made of multi-colored
plush medallions that looked very Pop Art.
Dinnigan also played with the masculine-feminine theme that has run throughout collections all
season, doing low-slung flat front pants in brown pinstripe wool and square-shouldered
"men's coats" in wool and fake fur.
For evening, Dinnigan didn't break any barriers, but what she showed would fit in at any party,
like a glam beaded ivory mermaid slip gown or black sequined lace shifts and tops over snug skirts
or soft satin pajama pants.
It was an extremely commercial collection that proved Dinnigan can
hold her own on the international fashion scene.
