PARIS, Oct 11, 2004/ FW/ --- Maybe its Australia with its pristine beaches and beautiful coral reefs, but it took an Aussie-born designer Collette Dinnigan to combine glamour with the seashore and make it work.
Sending her signature wispy flowing dresses on the runway, the Queen of Australian fashion added seaside elements on the gowns and dresses, giving a very fresh appeal.
The glistening sand became Swarovski crystals embedded or woven; the waves became embossed embroidery, while the seashells were represented as prints or as jewelry.
Varying the hemlines from above the knee to mid-calf and ankle-length, the models became lovely sea nymphs that are so ephemeral and ethereal, they look as if they can vanish any minute.
Presenting some boy shorts that are either beaded or embroidered, being at the beach had never looked so glamorous.
At each passing season, Collette Dinnigan continues to grow as a designer, exhibiting more and more how she can translate a concept into reality.
The sophisticated silhouettes she presented moved between serious to sublime. Yet Collette Dinnigan had not forgotten to have fun either, evidenced by the lovely shorts and minis she interspersed with the gowns and cocktail dresses.
