PARIS, Mar 9, 2004/ FW/ --- Last January in Milan, Ennio Capasa brought modern day samurais to the menswear runway. Last Wednesday, here in Paris at the Musée de L’Homme (Museum of Man), he introduced Marina and Morgiana, heroines from stories in the Arabian Nights to the 21st century.
Known for his ‘east meets west’ signature style, with a dash of minimalism, Ennio Capasa slightly departed from his usual fare and presented a collection that is soft and rich in decoration.
The silhouette is slim, with clothes cut very close to the body as exemplified by green quilted jacket with a standing collar.
The harem pants were tighter than usual, and Ennio Capasa added pockets for it to be more functional, and retained the cinched hemline.
Like the Costume National gent, the Costume National lady will also be wearing breastplates, courtesy of Sinbad, Aladdin and a host of Arabian Nights warriors.
Though the eastern influence is fascinating, the best looks came from the west, with the rabbit and sheared mink coats and jackets.
Overall, this is not Ennio Capasa best collection, but there are enough looks to make the retail buyers interested and keep those cash registers ringing come fall.
